Quit Smoking with a 3-Day Solo Trip on Powell Lake (Tis’kwat)

No programs. No pressure. Just you, a canoe, and the space to step away.

I know what it feels like to be sick of the usual options.

The patches. The apps. The group therapy circles. The wellness fluff.

None of that worked for me.

So I built this instead.

The Trip: Simple, Quiet, Real

You’ll spend 3 days alone on Powell Lake (Tis’kwat), a vast stretch of water in British Columbia, surrounded by forests and mountains.

We’ll get you there—by canoe, dinghy, or even floatplane.

You’ll stay at a float cabin or set up at a remote campsite.

You’ll have radio contact with me (or my crew), and meals if you want them—prepared by local chefs or kept basic if that’s your style.

There’s no phone signal. No distractions. No cigarettes.

You walk. You sit. You write. You maybe cry. You maybe sleep the whole damn time.

You come back with something lighter.

You don’t need to be an adventurer or outdoors expert.

We provide basic gear, safe transport, guidance, and backup support.

The Book: The Pal Method

I wrote a 200+ page guide long before AI bots could spit out self-help fluff.

It’s rough around the edges. I’d change some things in it. But it’s honest. It worked for me.

It’s a roadmap to quitting smoking without shame, using a mix of:

  • Science
  • Buddhism
  • New Age weirdness
  • Forest time
  • Habit-forming tricks
  • Stories from my own life

It’s how I quit smoking after 27 years—with no cravings.

If you’re curious, I’ll send it to you for free. Just text or email.

Bring it on the trip, or leave it behind.

It’s there if you need it.

Making an English longbow.

Part of the journey is about trying something new—building fresh brain connections that don’t lead back to smoking.

Tye teaches bow making and other hands-on skills, sometimes with guest instructors.

Optional, but a bit of guidance is included.

Who We Are: Shophouse

I run Shophouse, a creative guesthouse and studio in Powell River, BC.

We host pottery workshopsart retreats, and 5-star Airbnb stays.

But this trip—the Pal 3-Day Strip—is the quietest, deepest thing we offer.

We’re connected to a trusted circle of people:

  • Fishing guides
  • Float cabin owners
  • Massage therapists
  • Musicians, health consultants, chefs
  • Adventure guides and tourism operators

If you need something extra, we know the right person.

How You Get Here

  • Fly in by floatplane from Vancouver with Harbour Air—right to the lake
  • Take Pacific Coastal Airlines into Powell River, and we’ll handle the rest
  • Hike in via the Sunshine Coast Trail if you’re already out in the wilderness

No car needed.

We’ll pick you up. We’ll get you fed. We’ll get you back out.

Who This Is For

  • Solo travelers who want space but support
  • People of any gender, solo or small groups
  • Hikers, paddlers, artists, thinkers
  • Anyone looking to quietly step away from something
  • Folks who are self-sufficient but stuck

You don’t have to explain yourself.

You just have to want to come.

Sliding Scale. Real Trust.

We don’t set the price.

You choose between $300 and $1500 based on what feels fair, what you can afford, and what you want out of it.
Bare bones version comes with plenty, If you want a full ceremony to mark this incredible moment of change, we can add local services and upgrades.

That includes:

  • Transport to the site (canoe, dinghy, floatplane)
  • A float cabin or campsite
  • Meals if you want them (prepared or simple)
  • Radio contact and backup support
  • Optional extra services (massage, fishing, music, etc.)

Want to Come?

Send an email.

Tell me what you’re thinking.

We’ll figure out the right trip for you.

“This isn’t about fighting your cravings.

It’s about walking away from the whole story.”
